The Hunt for Bin Laden: Oakley Takes Spotlight in “Zero Dark Thirty” Film, Real-Life Military Partnership Highlighted

The Hunt for Bin Laden: Oakley Takes Spotlight in “Zero Dark Thirty” Film, Real-Life Military Partnership Highlighted

ZeroDarkThirty
It’s a known fact. The U.S. Navy Seals trust Oakley.
The World’s most elite military fighting force has been working hand in hand with the Big O’s military division for years now – developing the most bleeding-edge protective equipment for the Seals through field research & development. So it’s no surprise that the latest reality-based film in Hollywood to shed light on their super secretive, incredible work, would also place Oakley in the spotlight.
Zero Dark Thirty, which traces the footsteps of military and intelligence operates over the past decade in their quest to eliminate Osama Bin Laden, features O protective/performance eyewear (Oakley Fast Jacket) throughout the film.
Intense? You bet.
Dropping in on Dec. 19, don’t miss the trailers below before raiding your nearest theatre.

OAKLEY AIRWAVE GOGGLE WITH HEADS UP DISPLAY

OAKLEY AIRWAVE GOGGLE WITH HEADS UP DISPLAY- 10.26.12

oakleyHUD0.jpgOakley Airwave Goggles  with built in Heads Up Display are launching on Halloween! And we had the pleasure of trying them out when we were in SF… i kid you not, the heads up display is gorgeous! Watching full color video in the little prism screen to the bottom right of your periphery was better than you’d expect. And i’m sure in due time, you stop finding yourself tilting your head down and to the right, as if you’d get a better view of it as i did… especially when you have stunning slopes filled with powder visible through the rest of your goggles!
As for what you can control and see in the Heads Up Display - there is everything from GPS/Navigation (routes for a lot of the best slopes around the globe are pre-programmed in), Buddy tracking (you can even find your friends who don’t have goggles, so long as they have the app), Music controls, Speed, Jump Analytics, and more! Of course, via bluetooth you can also pair it with your smartphone and view incoming calls and texts and access your playlists… all controlled by glove friendly wrist remote. The HUD itself comes from Recon Instruments , using “innovative prism technology to display information perceived by the wearer to be the size of a 14-inch screen that is five feet away, so refocusing the eye is not necessary.” And it really is surprisingly good in person. The accompanying app will be available on both Android and iOS, and no worries, even when your phone isn’t connected (or the battery dies) the goggles have built in GPS, Accelerometer, etc so all your data is stored locally until you connect to your phone.
For the best explanation of how it all works - take a look at the video on the next page! And for now, i’ll just keep dreaming about when Oakley takes this further and integrates the fun HUD into more products for every day life!
p.s. It’s worth noting that there’s a HUD SDK available  - so if you can dream it, you can make it happen!

Oakley drops Lance Armstrong | armstrong, oakley, foundation - Business - The Orange County Register

Oakley drops Lance Armstrong

Foothill Ranch-based Oakley Inc. joins the list of major sponsors that have severed ties with the athlete.

By LISA LIDDANE / THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER
Foothill Ranch-based Oakley Inc. on Monday became the latest company to drop Lance
Armstrong after Union Cycliste Internationale, the international cycling union, stripped the
cyclist of his seven Tour de France titles
Oakley, the manufacturer and retailer of performance sunglasses and sports apparel, said
it has severed its relationship with Armstrong, effective immediately, and based its decision
in part on "the overwhelming evidence that (U.S. Anti-Doping Agency) presented."
Article Tab: In June 2010, cyclist Lance Armstrong wore Oakley Livestrong sunglasses while competing in the Tour de Luxembourg. Oakley was a long-time sponsor of Armstrong until Monday, when it severed its ties to the cyclist.
In June 2010, cyclist Lance Armstrong wore Oakley Livestrong sunglasses while competing in the Tour de Luxembourg. Oakley was a long-time sponsor of Armstrong until Monday, when it severed its ties to the cyclist.
"When Lance joined our family
many years ago, he was a symbol
of possibility," according to a company
statement. "We are deeply saddened
by the outcome, but look forward with
hope to athletes and teams of the future
who will rekindle that inspiration by racing
 clean, fair and honest."
The company, a division of Milan-based
Luxottica Group SpA, is cutting its
ties to Armstrong, but not to Livestrong,
the foundation he launched to supports
 people with cancer. Armstrong stepped
down as foundation chairman Wednesday.
"We believe the Livestrong Foundation has
been a positive force in the lives of many
by cancer and, at this time, Oakley will
continue to support its noble goals,"
the company said.
Oakley will continue to manufacture
 Livestrong-related men's and women's
 products, which feature the foundation's
signature yellow branding, includinga $3,050 special edition carbon fiber and titanium watch, sports sunglasses ranging from $149.99to $290 and prescription eyeglasses priced from $240 to $250. For every purchase of the special edition sunglasses, Oakley provides $20 to the foundation.
Other sponsors have ended their affiliation with Armstrong, including Nike, Michelob Ultra,
Trek Bicycle Corp., 24 Hour Fitness and Honey Stinger since the U.S. Anti-Doping
Agency report was released earlier this month. The national anti-doping organization found
that Armstrong and his cycling team "ran the most sophisticated, professionalized and
doping program that sport has ever seen."

Leanda Cave Captures IRONMAN World Championship Title; Oakley Women Sweep Podium

Leanda Cave Captures IRONMAN World Championship Title; Oakley Women Sweep Podium

AG5I0131
Leanda Cave of Great Britain was already a World Champion going into Saturday’s race in Kona. Cave won the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Las Vegas just a short month prior. Cave proved why she is a true champion Saturday taking down a stacked women’s field on the hot, windy highways of Kailua Kona, Hawaii. The Brit overtook Switzerland’s Caroline Steffen with two miles remaining in the run to obtain the coveted crown at the end of Ali’i Drive. 2010 champion, Mirinda Carfrae ran her heart out, collapsing at the finish line, placing third. All three women completed this year’s epic IRONMAN World Championships wearing the special, custom pink and white Oakley Radarlock, in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Young Survival Coalition.
Out of the water first at this year’s race was Amanda Stevens. Known for her swimming background, it didn’t come as much of a surprise that Stevens was the fastest swimmer. Meredith Kessler and Gina Crawford came through next, as Cave, the eventual winner, and Mary Beth Ellis weren’t far behind. Eventual second place finisher Caroline Steffen followed the American and 2010 champion Carfrae emerged a full three minutes behind.
Cave and Ellis shot out to an early lead on the bike course and Steffen managed to eventually join up and cling on. The Queen Kaahumanu highway was extremely gusty this year, exhibiting what some said were the highest winds in over ten years. While the riders pedaled away, the officials occasionally made the race interesting. Steffen was the first victim of a drafting penalty and was forced to spend four minutes in the penalty box. Just as Steffen caught up to the two she was forced to watch fade into the distance earlier, Cave was slowed down for a penalty of her own, allowing Steffen and Ellis to slip away leading into the run. Mary Beth Ellis surged around the final turn into T2 with a slight lead over Steffen, but was then forced to serve a final penalty of her own, allowing Steffen to hit the marathon course first. Carfrae began the run 8:09 behind the leaders. Known as one of the better runners in the field, Carfrae could only have been pleased to begin the run with the smallest margin from the lead in her Kona career.
The run featured some of the most exciting action in IRONMAN World Championship history. Steffen plugged away at her commanding lead as Carfrae worked to gain ground on Cave. As she neared, Cave kicked it into overdrive, leaving Carfrae behind to ponder what was going on. Cave used that very surge to track down the Swiss leader, eventually passing her in a gut-wrenching move at the 24-mile mark in the run. Cave eventually crossed the finish line as the newly crowned women’s IRONMAN World Champion, completing a dominating year in which she won the world championship at the Half IRONMAN distance as well. Steffen, known as “Xena” for her warrior like tenacity, placed second and Carfrae used every last bit of energy she had to cross the finish line third.
“It’s good to keep the title in the U.K.,” said Cave. “Chrissie [Wellington] did say in the press this week that she wanted either myself or Rachel [Joyce] (GBR) to fly the flag of G.B. and I’m proud to be able to say we still hold that title and next year I hope we can do it again.”
In the men’s race, Andreas Raelert of Germany didn’t have enough in the tank to beat out first-time winner Pete Jacobs of Australia. Raelert finished in the runner-up position for the second time in his career. This was also his fourth podium finish at the event. The German crossed the line in Kona supporting the YSC and breast cancer awareness cause as well. Finally, fellow Oakley triathlete, Frederik Van Lierde, of Belgium, rounded out the men’s podium. Defending champion, Craig Alexander had a tough day on the course and the 3-time World Champion finished in 12th place.
Congratulations to Leanda Cave on her newly acquired title of IRONMAN World Champion. She earned every bit of it as she concluded the IRONMAN circuit World Championship domination Saturday in Kona. Congratulations also go out to Caroline Steffen and Mirinda Carfrae for their gutsy performances at this year’s event. Finally, a large congratulations and thank you to all the athletes who wore the custom pink and white Radarlock sunglasses in support of breast cancer awareness and the YSC. Your dedication to honest competition and a great cause are what make triathlon such a special sport.

Kurt Sorge Claims Victory At 2012 Red Bull Rampage

Kurt Sorge Claims Victory At 2012 Red Bull Rampage

CP_121007_RAMPAGE12_Sorge celebrates
Canadian Kurt Sorge came away with the victory at the 2012 Red Bull Rampage in Virgin, Utah. With over 2,000 fans lining the course in the Southern Utah desert, Sorge nailed a pair of gutsy performances, beating out some tough competition. Sorge’s second run proved crucial to his victory as he beat out competitors who threw down a handful of backflips and other gutsy tricks. Also, Oakley riders made up five of the top ten finishers. The seventh edition of the highly anticipated event did not disappoint as some of the best mountain bikers in the world soared to new heights and conquered the highest start in the event’s history.
Sorge, one of the stars of the new Red Bull mountain bike film Where the Trail Ends, threw down an impressive second run which included a superman over a massive jump and a monster backflip before heading down the hill with style off the Oakley Icon Sender, into the dirt quaterpipe below. The ride was enough to beat out second place finisher Antoine Bizet who also threw a huge backflip near the top of his highest-scoring run. Unfortunately for Bizet however, Sorge’s score of 86.75 was no match in the end for his 74.00. Sorge stood by anxiously in the coral waiting for the last riders to come down from the giant course to see if his top score would hold up. That it did, and his friends and family swarmed him, lifting the Canadian high above their shoulders, saluting the champ.
“Today has been stressful and good,” Sorge said. “Stressful and then good.”
The riders at the 2012 Red Bull Rampage were as impressed with the course as the casual onlookers. Some even described it as terrifying. The event was definitely the most bold and daring edition in it’s history and it proved effective in the riders’ performances. The new and improved Oakley Icon Sender was also a huge success, with many riders choosing to launch off one of the three options of this year’s feature. Oakley is proud to have been a part of yet another successful Red Bull Rampage. Congratulations to Kurt on his gutsy winning ride and to all the other Oakley riders who braved the Southern Utah desert this past weekend.
In case you missed the event in person or the webcast online, highlights of the 2012 Red Bull Rampage will be broadcast as part of the Red Bull Signature Series on NBC on December 8th at 2pm ET.

OAKLEY x NeochaEDGE: dragon-themed designs for limited edition chinese new year t-shirt & hoodie /// NeochaEDGE ///

OAKLEY x NeochaEDGE: dragon-themed designs for limited edition chinese new year t-shirt & hoodie

To kick off the Year of the Dragon, we’re proud to share a collaboration recently launched by Oakley China. Using inspiration from traditional Chinese imagery and mythology, we created a customized dragon logo to be featured on an exclusive, limited edition collection of Oakley t-shirts and hoodies. For this project, we teamed up with the ultra-talented, Shanghai-based EDGE Creative Collective member KZENG.
KZENG’s style is distinctive – he uses a consistent color palette in all of his work, primarily of red, yellow, and cyan. For the Chinese New Year collaboration with Oakley, we worked with KZENG to pull off a wicked cool Oakley logo treatment that teases a traditional dragon using his signature color combination and creates a balance between the old and the new to express the spirit of modern China.

Oakley World Pro Junior in Bali Begins Tomorrow

Oakley World Pro Junior in Bali Begins Tomorrow

Oakley Pro Jr. Championship
On the eve of Day 1 of the Oakley World Pro Junior waiting period, the waves at both Canggu and Keramas made it pretty clear that action was going to begin with first light on Saturday morning. Multiple swells in the water off of the picturesque and wave-rich island of Bali had both spots firing and the lineups packed with world-class junior talent.
At Echo Beach in Canggu, the local wildcard trials ran in overhead, challenging conditions, with two spots into the main event on the line. Nyoman Satria and Gazali Hamzah battled their way through the long day of heats at Canggu and will be representing the Balinese people once the event begins. Hamzah’s brother, Hairil Anwar, is also in the event, invited as the ASP Australasia wildcard.
Meanwhile, nearly an hour down the road at Keramas, the majority of the main event competitors were exchanging pleasantries and scratching into as many waves as possible. A who’s-who of junior talent – from defending champ Caio Ibelli to Koa Smith to Conner Coffin to former champ Jack Freestone to wunderkind Jack Robinson – were threading their way through barrels and throwing down an array of aerial maneuvers. With the two ASP Junior World Champion crowns on the line, it should be an exciting and dramatic 13 days of surfing and experiencing the unique culture of this slice of paradise in the South Pacific.

Purpose Beyond Reason: Oakley Designers Spawn New and Improved Icon Sender For 2012 Red Bull Rampage

Purpose Beyond Reason: Oakley Designers Spawn New and Improved Icon Sender For 2012 Red Bull Rampage

RH-120912-3876
Deep in the heart of the southern Utah desert, the world’s most outrageously talented mountain bikers will gather for this year’s Red Bull Rampage. Never seen the event before? It’s just as crazy as it sounds. Forty foot drops onto bone crushingly solid rocks, insanely large custom-built features designed to launch grown men to unimaginable heights and some of the world’s most crazed mountain bike riders willing to push the limits of gravity, speed and human capability.
Red Bull Rampage was first seen in 2001. It’s been a highly anticipated big mountain event ever since and Oakley is proud to be an integral part once again. Falling in line with Oakley founder Jim Jannard’s famous statement, “Everything can and will be made better,” the Oakley design team has prepared a one of a kind, new-and-improved Oakley Icon Sender to make this year’s Red Bull Rampage that much more interesting. Also keeping with Oakley tradition, the design plans were created in-house, by the same talented designers who invent the world-renowned technologies that make Oakley glasses far and beyond the most innovative product on the market.
The team of 6-10 designers were responsible for creating the Oakley Icon Sender from initial design drawings, to the actual materials build and finally the aesthetics including an immense wooden skull and antique lantern features. When asked what makes designing this feature different than designing eyewear, Vice President of Oakley Design, Peter Yee, talked about how unique the Icon Sender is to build compared to Oakley eyewear.
“It is a little different in that there aren’t the same technical requirements for optical superiority and frame innovation and integrity,” Yee said. “However, there is the same depth of creative thought and expertise that goes into any project my team tackles. These projects are fun and rewarding in their own right and offer a nice change for the team to express their creative expertise in non-eyewear related projects and helps as another creative outlet.”
Yee added that the team of designers responsible for the Oakley Icon Sender is made up of very talented and passionate people that live the Oakley brand. They enjoy doing cool projects that exemplify Oakley’s culture, inspire others and show how proud the designers and Oakley family are of the brand.
At the 2010 Red Bull Rampage, riders were sent off a remarkable Oakley Icon Sender featuring a large wooden ramp overlooking a gutsy 40-foot drop. The structure was highlighted by a massive tower, watched over by “Josh,” an intimidating wooden skull structure created by Oakley eyewear designers. Nothing was more memorable from the 2010 event than Oakley rider Cameron Zink throwing a breath-taking 360 off of the Icon Sender, ultimately leading him to victory.
2012 is a whole new ball game as the new Sender packs a punch that will have the riders’ heads spinning. Josh and the Oakley Icon Sender are back and better than ever for this year’s Red Bull Rampage. The updated feature will include three sender options combined into one structure to create variety and leave it to the riders’ to decide how to attack the Sender. The tower will have an upper and lower deck as well as a side sender that can be used by those looking for a nice smooth drop without all the flare of the two tower ramps.
Based on the event’s natural surroundings, the Oakley Icon Sender is designed to mimic an old mining car station that you might find at the entryway of a mine. It features a corrugated tin roof, train trestle bracing on the ramps and old rusty lanterns hanging from the Sender. Josh has been given a face lift this year, with the addition of two 3.5 foot horns on each side of his head, wrapped in a variety of Kenda mountain bike tires, generously donated by Oakley mountain bike legend, Brian Lopes. Further improving the look of this year’s feature, Josh has also undergone some dental surgery. Finally, the Oakley Icon Sender will feature two antique mine lanterns, containing state of the art JBL speakers, which will be used to pump out music aimed at keeping the riders and the fans entertained. This year’s Oakley Icon Sender is bound to be a stand-out feature in what is slated to be yet another epic Red Bull Rampage.
The Oakley Icon Sender is a true testament to the passion and determination found at Oakley’s One Icon World Headquarters. This year’s feature was born within the walls of the Oakley design lab and truly expresses the “Beyond Reason” motto that fuels everything by which the Oakley employee and athlete lives his or her life. “Beyond Reason” is more than a campaign slogan, it’s a lifestyle. When presented with a challenge, the Oakley family responds and nothing is more true an expression of this than the Oakley Icon Sender for this year’s Red Bull Rampage. A design philosophy to push the boundaries of what are “normal” expectations led to the impressive feature to be seen in southern Utah this summer. There is no doubt that when the riders reach the finish line, amidst the blur that was their adrenaline-pumping run, an imprint will have been made and the Oakley Icon Sender will live firm in their memory as a feature they could never forget.
